I've mentioned in a previous post about my entry in the 2012 RDS National Crafts Competition. At that time, back in June, I only knew that my work has been selected for exhibition in the RDS Discover Ireland Horse Show 15-19th August.
The Awards Ceremony took place on the 9th of August in the RDS Concert Hall and … THE WINNER in the Knitting & Crochet Category IS CAMELIA SHANAHAN. Wow! My entry in the most prestigious Irish crafts competition Romancing the Lace Collection – “Peacock Walk” won the 1st Prize.
THE WINNER : Romancing the Lace Collection – “Peacock Walk”
"Camelia strives to give the 21st century Irish woman confidence to express her femininity.
Inspired by the exotic beauty of peacocks, Romancing the Lace Collection – “Peacock Walk” is a sleeveless dress with a fitted bodice. The design flares into a full skirt suggesting peacock’s fabulous plumage. It is hand crocheted in rayon in the traditional Irish method resembling the smoothness and high lustre of silk.
Majestic and graceful, feathered in style, “Peacock Walk” brings true sophistication borrowed from the grandeur and elegance of nature."
And to my delight I was also awarded the RDS 2012 New Entrants’ Prize. A double win for me in the competition!
To round it all up, the winning entries will form a Travelling Exhibition between September and mid-December 2012 and will be featured at the:
- Rathcroghan Visitor Centre, Cruachan Ai, Tulsk, Co. Roscommon from 21st September to 14th October
- Castlecomer Discovery Park, The Estate Yard, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny from 28th October to 18th November.
