Holly Leaf crochet pattern in Irish crochet style
The following leaf pattern is a re-written version of one of the 30 – 19th century Irish crochet motifs compiled by Therese de Dillmont in her book, Masterpieces of Irish Crochet Lace, 1986 edition.
How to Crochet a Holly Leaf in Irish Crochet Style?

Crochet Yarn
- crochet cotton Size 10 colour = white.
Crochet Hook
- 1.75 mm steel hook.
Details of components
- 2 lace leaves with fringed edges joined by a short stalk.
Crochet Pattern
Prepare a padding cord by folding 3 threads ~ 14inches long.
Start: using 1.75mm hook working over a padding cord
R1: make 13sc, 2ch, turn
R2: work over the padding cord and in the sc from the previous row, make 13sc, 2sc over the cord, turn
R3: (3ch, skip 2sc and make 1sc in next sc) x 5, pivot, 3ch, 1sc on the 2ch at point of leaf, 3ch, 1sc at base of 1st sc, and make (3ch, skip 2sc and make 1sc in next sc) x 5, turn
R4: 4sc in the 1st ch sts loop, then continue with: (1picot, 4sc in the next ch sts loop) x 11 = 1 leaf finished.
Continue working over the cord now and make 4sc, 1picot, 4sc, 1 picot, 6sc = stalk finished, 1ch turn and repeat from R1 to make another leaf as follows:
R1: make 13sc, 2ch, turn
R2: work over the padding cord and in the sc from the previous row, make 13sc, 2sc at the base of the last 2sts of the stalk, turn
R3: (3ch, skip 2sc and make 1sc in next sc) x 5, pivot, 3ch, 1sc on the 2ch at point of leaf,
3ch, 1sc at base of 1st sc, and make (3ch, skip 2sc and make 1sc in next sc) x 5, turn
R4: 4sc in the 1st ch sts loop, then continue with: (1picot, 4sc in the next ch sts loop) x 11 = 2 leaves finished. Finish with sl st in the stalk. Fasten off threads.

That’s all! The crochet pattern is ready! It is a leaf design for an experienced crochetier, beginners will find it quite tricky.
