Violets crochet pattern in Irish crochet style

The following pattern was inspired by an Irish crochet motif from Pauline Turner's book, Crochet Lace.

 

How to Crochet a Violet in Irish Crochet Style?

Crochet Yarn

  • crochet cotton Size 10 colour = white.

Crochet Hook

  • 1.75 mm steel hook.

Details of components

  • five petal flowers and buds attached to a budcase
  • leaves.

Crochet Pattern

Start: using 1.75mm hook, make 5ch, join with sl st, 1ch

R1: work into the ring (1sc, 4ch, 3dtr, 4ch) x 5 = 5 petals, join with sl st, do not cut thread.

Make 3 flowers.Violet crochet flowers

Flower 1 – continue with stem: make 21 ch, skip 1st ch, 20sl st and sl st at base of 1st petal. Fasten off.

Flower 2 – continue with stem: make 17 ch, skip 1st ch, 14sl st and sl st at base of 1st petal. Fasten off.

Flower 3 – continue with stem: make 15 ch, skip 1st ch, 10sl st and sl st at base of 1st petal. Fasten off.

Crochet Violet Bud (2pcs.)Violet crochet flower buds

Make two flowers same as before, fold them in half and sew them before attaching it to the calyx.

Start: using 1.75mm hook, make 5ch, join with sl st, 1ch

R1: make 6sc in the ring, join with sl st, 1ch

R2: (1sc, 4ch, skip 1st ch, 1sl st, 2sc, 1sc in next sc in ring) x 3. Fasten off.

Crochet LeafViolet crochet leaf

Start: using 1.75mm hook, make 8ch, skip 1st ch,

R1: make 7sc, pivot, make (1sc, 3dc) in next st, 5dc, 2dc in next st, 2dc in last ch at top of leaf, 2dc in next sc, 2dc, 2dc in next sc, 5dc,  join with sl st, 1ch

R2: 3sc at base of ch, 3dc in next st, (2dc in next st) x 3, 5dc, (2dc in next st) x 4, 6dc, 2dc in next st, 4dc in next st, 2dc, join with sl st. Fasten off.

AssemblyViolet buds assembly

Fold the flower buds and stitch them inside the calyx. Make a couple of stems similar to the ones made for the flowers and stitch them at the back of each calyx.

Arrange the flowers, flower buds, place the leaf at the bottom of assembly and stitch the ends of the stems to the back of leaf.
