Fan crochet pattern in Irish Crochet Style
The following pattern is based on an antique Irish crochet motif compiled by Therese de Dillmont in her book, Masterpieces of Irish Crochet Lace.
How to Crochet a Fan in Irish Crochet Style?
Crochet Yarn
- crochet cotton Size 10 colour = white.
Crochet Hook
- 1.75 mm steel hook.
Crochet Pattern
Start: Make a 3 strand padding cord, work a sl st in the loop at the end,
R1: make 20sc on cord, draw it to form a ring and join with sl st in the first st,
R2: 1sl st in next st, (3ch, 1sc in next st) x 7, turn
R3: 5ch, 1sc in the first ch loop, (3ch, 1sc in the next ch loop) x 6, turn
R4: 4ch, 1sc in the first ch loop, (2ch, 1sc in the next ch loop) x 6, 1ch, turn
R5: 3sc on the first 6 loops and 2sc on the last loop, 1ch, turn
R6: 20sc, turn
R7: 4ch, skip 1st sc, 1sc in the 2nd sc, (3ch, skip 1sc, 1sc in next sc) x 9, turn
R8: 5ch, 1sc in the first loop, (3ch, 1sc in the next loop) x 9, turn
R9: 4ch, 1sc in the 1st loop, (2ch, 1sc in the next loop) x 9, 1ch, turn
R10: 3sc in each loop, 1ch, turn
R11: 30sc, turn
R12: 4ch, skip 1st sc, 1sc in the 2nd sc, (3ch, skip 1sc, 1sc in next sc) x 14, turn
R13: 5ch, 1sc in first loop, (3ch, 1sc in the next ch loop) x 14, turn
R14: same. Fasten off.
Loopy Edge
Join the thread on the sc just below the first loop on the right hand side, then work along the right side of the fan and over the padding cord 1sc in each of the outside sts of the first 3 rows of loops, 1sc in each of the 2 first rows of sc, 1sc in each of the next 3 rows of loops, 1sc in each of the 2 first rows of sc, 1sc in each of the first 2 rows of loops and 3sc in the corner loop.
On the top of the fan make (11sc over the padding cord only, 1sc over the pc in the 2nd loop of ch) x 7; make 2sc in the corner loop, then over the pc on the left side making 13sc and 1sc in the sc on the ring.
Continue around the ring: (11sc over the pc only, 1sc over the pc in the 4th sc in the ring) x 3. Finish with sl st. Fasten off.
