About Vanda Orchids
Vanda is one of the most evolved genus in the Orchid family. Vanda has beautiful, fragrant flowers blooming every few months and lasting a couple of weeks. Some varieties have flat, broad leaves, others have cylindrical leaves.
The Blue Vanda (Vanda coerulea) has flat, deep blue flowers with 3 sepals, 2 petals and a purple lip with a small yellow column and a small spur.
How to Crochet a Blue Vanda Orchid flower?
Blue Vanda Orchid Crochet Flower Pattern
- Crochet cotton Size 5, colour A = deep blue multi, colour B = white
- Embroidery cotton colour C = yellow, colour D = purple.
- 1mm steel hook, 1.75 mm steel hook.

- flat flower with 3 deep blue sepals, 2 petals, a lip and a short spur.
Crochet Flower Pattern
Crochet Sepals (3pcs.)
Start: using colour A and 1.75mm hook, make 5ch, join with sl st, 1ch,
R1: (1sc in ring, 2ch) x 3, join with sl st in 1st sc, 1ch,
R2: work each sepal in the 2ch loop from previous row: (1sc, 5ch, 3sts-trtr cluster, 1picot, 3sts-trtr cluster, 5ch, 1sc) x 3 = 3 sepals. Fasten off A.
Crochet Column, Petals and Lip
Start: using colour C and 1mm hook, make 2ch, skip 1st ch, make 4sc in the next ch, join with sl st, change to colour B, 1ch
R1: make 4sc, join with sl st, change to colour A, 1ch
R2: 4sc, join with sl st, change to 1.75mm hook
R3: (1sc in next sc, 2ch,) x 2, 1sc in next sc, 4ch, join with sl st in 1st ch, 1ch,
R4: work each petal in the 2ch loop from previous row: (1sc, 5ch, 2sts-trtr cluster, 2sts-trtr cluster, 5ch, 1sc) x 2;
- Work the spur and lip in the 4ch loop from previous row:
R1: change to colour D, make 4sc in the 4ch loop, and pick 3sc from the ring’s side, join with sl st, 1ch
R2: 7sc, join with sl st, 1ch
R3: skip 1st sc, make 6sc, join with sl st, 1ch
R4: skip 1st sc, 5sc, join with sl st, 1ch
R5: skip 1st sc, 4sc, join with sl st, 1ch
R6: (skip 1st sc, 1sc) x 2. Fasten off.
- Tie in colour D at right hand side of the spur, make 5ch, skip 1st ch, make 4sc, 1ch, turn
R1: in the flo, work 4sc, 1ch, turn
R2: in the blo, 4sc, join with sl st at left hand side of spur. Fasten off.
Position the petals & lip over and between the sepals and sew together. The spur should point towards the back of the flower.
